NEW PLACE, Lingfield, Surrey is the residence of Lord and Lady Lingfield and is the only Jacobean stone mansion in Surrey. It was built in 1617 around a medieval core: a hall house of around 1300 of which parts remain. Much of the ashlar from which New Place is built came from Lingfield College a monastery for secular priests which was demolished at the Reformation and clear traces of this material can be seen in the walls of the house and garden.
